Diogo Dalot explains Manchester United’s long-term vision

Diogo Dalot has praised his teammate’s performances against Omonia Nicosia and also admitted that a strong squad depth will help them have a greater influence in tough games in the future.

Manchester United performed admirably in the second half even after putting in a below-par performance in the initial 45 minutes. Super-sub Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford made a difference as soon as they were introduced after the break.

Marcus Rashford levelled the scoreline before Martial scored the team’s second goal. The English striker then sealed the match by scoring the game-winning goal in the 85th minute to give us a 3-2 victory.

Dalot praised the impact of United’s substitute players and also shed light on the importance of having such players who can contribute even from the bench.

While speaking to the club’s official website, the Portuguese right-back said:

“[We made] very good subs, they made the difference today. I think what we want to build long-term is a squad. We are not [just] 11 players, we have a lot more quality on the bench and this shows to the manager that they want to play as well which I think is perfect for us. We want more of this, it will give us more as a team and for the future, I think it will benefit us.”

It is important for a club to have players who add value to the squad as a whole. The short cameo of a substitute player can sometimes add more value to the match than the regular players who are struggling to find the back of the net.

Ten Hag will be happy with his attacker’s display but he will also be worried about their dismal first-half display. A strong set of players on the bench did help the team but the gaffer needs to assemble a strong line-up against Everton.

Martial’s goal will give him some much-needed confidence after he scored a brace against Manchester City last week. He would be expected to start alongside Antony and Marcus Rashford against the Toffees.
