Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot has been one of the team’s most improved performers in recent games. Despite his future being in doubt, he has been putting in much improved offensive performance for his club.
The Manchester Evening News published a detailed story on how Dalot has managed to turn things around at Old Trafford following a terrible period under the previous manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Dalot was nowhere near breaking through under Solskjaer, but he’s worked hard off the pitch to improve his fitness and now appears to be reaping the benefits of his patience.
Under interim manager Ralf Rangnick, the Portugal international currently appears to be the apparent first choice, but things could have gone very differently.

Rangnick heaped praise on Diogo Dalot for one of his recent performances by saying:
“Our full-backs [played] forward and asked for the ball on the wing. So they almost played like wing-backs. Especially in the first half, Alex and Diogo did extremely well offensively and that’s why I played 4-2-2-2.”
Dalot was being pursued by his former boss Jose Mourinho at Roma this summer, with United willing to make a move if they could secure the signing of Kieran Trippier to replace him.
This didn’t work out, and now Dalot has come in and provided MUFC with a more aggressive alternative, providing the much-needed upgrade over the unconvincing Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
It’s tough to imagine Wan-Bissaka leading such an offensive push. Dalot puts more pressure and is more dominant in the air than Wan-Bissaka. With many long crosses that he misjudged, several opponents have exposed Wan-Bissaka’s aerial weakness.
Although Wan-Bissaka has defensive qualities, it is evident that Dalot is more well-rounded in that area, delivering the type of attacking danger that modern full-backs are expected to provide.
It’s unclear whether he’ll be able to maintain his current form, but Red Devils fans will be pleased with how things are going for him right now.
