Following a strong start to the new season, Diogo Dalot is apparently at the top of Xavi’s Barcelona shortlist for the next summer transfer window.
The Portuguese have started every Premier League game so far this season under Erik ten Hag. The defender has also played in Europa League contests against Sheriff Tiraspol and Real Sociedad.
His direct competitor, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, on the other hand, has only played four minutes of senior football thus far. Dalot is sporting the best appearance of any player wearing a Manchester United jersey, indicating that Ten Hag’s strategies are definitely benefiting him.
His good form has one drawback in the shape of transfer interest from a European heavyweight. Fichajes claims that Dalot is Xavi’s top priority as he tries to expand his right-back options.
Argentina’s Juan Foyth who once played for Tottenham has been sought after by Barca in the past. The United star, though, has surpassed Foyth and moved to the top of Xavi’s wish list as a result of his improved performances.
The 23-year-old’s contract expires in 2023, and Barca is well aware of his contract situation. Dalot isn’t as costly as is claimed in the report, but Foyth is.
To meet Xavi’s demands, Barca might make a strong effort to sign Dalot. Although Ten Hag and the United chiefs have a sound strategy to stop Dalot from leaving the club. The right-back’s contract gives him the choice of an additional year.
The same is true for David De Gea, Luke Shaw, Fred, and Marcus Rashford. Ten Hag seemed eager for United to extend Dalot’s contract for another year, preventing Barca from acquiring him for next to nothing at all.
Additionally, this extension would offer United an additional year to negotiate a long-term contract with the player. Barca won’t have much of a chance to sign Diogo Dalot if a long-term contract has been agreed upon.
