According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, Manchester United midfielder, Donny van de Beek is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford and may try to arrange a move away in January.
Van de Beek has fallen further down the pecking order despite the Red Devils spending more than £200 million during the summer transfer window.
The former Ajax star, who spent the second half of the previous season on loan with Premier League rivals Everton, returned to United in the summer.
But the Dutch star’s situation at Old Trafford has not improved since Erik ten Hag was named the Red Devils’ manager. He played under ten Hag far more often while he was an Ajax player.
While Speaking to Give Me Sport, O’Rourke said:
“He finds himself sort of surplus to requirements at Manchester United right now and it’s going to be interesting to see what happens with van de Beek in January. Will he look to move on in search of regular first-team football or will he get more opportunities in the Manchester United team?”
“But, right now, it does seem like it’s going to be a tough, long season ahead for van de Beek if the opportunities aren’t going to be given to him by ten Hag.”
Since the start of the season, Van de Beek has been limited to just 19 minutes of play, and he is still waiting for his first start. It is said that ten Hag, who was surprised by the 25-year-old’s lack of confidence, prevented the player from returning to Ajax in the summer.
However, the situation has still not improved and there could a possibility that the midfielder may leave the club this January. Italian powerhouse Inter Milan is ready to arrange a move for the 25-year-old in the upcoming transfer window.
