Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek has delivered good news regarding his ongoing recovery from a knee injury sustained in January.
The Dutch star suffered an injury in the 3-0 Premier League victory over Bournemouth. He underwent surgery afterwards and was sidelined for the rest of the year.
In an interview with MUTV, Van de Beek claimed that he has lately accelerated his physical therapy in the gym and that he is soon going to be able to return to the training base.
He said:
“I’m busy with my recovery after my injury and everything is going well. It’s hard to give you a time but we have to see how everything goes. I’m doing a lot of gym work and getting closer to being on the pitch, which is positive. I’m not far away.”
Since leaving Ajax three years ago, the Dutchman has found it difficult to make an impression at Old Trafford. He has only made 10 appearances so far this year before getting injured against the Cherries.
In a typical scenario, there might be concerns about his future as we approach the summer, but manager Erik Ten Hag should give him extra time in light of the unfortunate injury.
We believe that the midfielder might be given the first half of the following season to establish himself. The club might let him go the next winter if he doesn’t improve.
Van de Beek came to United with a reputation as a box-to-box midfielder, but he hasn’t seemed to have much confidence there. He hasn’t shown enough creativity in attack.
Thus, he is currently in a key phase of his United career. He has some time at the club because of the injury, but Ten Hag might not want to keep underachievers in his squad for too long.
