According to Luke Edwards of The Telegraph, Manchester United midfielder, Donny van de Beek has turned down a loan transfer to Newcastle United due to the club’s chances of getting relegated.
Since his arrival at Old Trafford, Van de Beek has struggled to find playing time.
Under former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Dutchman was never a wanted player. Many hoped that by replacing the United legend with Ralf Rangnick, Van de Beek would be freed up, but this has not been the case, and despite the Red Devils’ midfield woes, he continues to start games only on a rare basis.
After finishing third in the Premier League, the 24-year-old moved to Manchester in the summer of 2020. Fans expected that securing Champions League football would result in a busy transfer window.
But financial difficulties caused by the Coronavirus outbreak, combined with the fact that Bruno Fernandes had been signed for over £45 million in January 2020, meant the Red Devils were unable to make big-money signings that summer.

Van de Beek, the former Ajax great, was eventually signed, but it was believed that Solskjaer did not want him. Instead, the Norwegian was targeting players like Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham.
This may have contributed to his lack of playing time under Solskjaer, but with Rangnick now giving him just as few opportunities, the problem may have deeper origins. Van de Beek was reportedly denied permission to join Everton on loan last summer.
With the Toffees currently wallowing in 16th place, having just released their best left-back Lucas Digne, letting go numerous key members of staff, and now sacked their manager Rafael Benitez, this transfer would almost certainly not have worked out well for him.
