Donny van de Beek’s agent has claimed that Manchester United blocked the player’s deadline day move away from Old Trafford with the player right on the fringes of Ole Gunnar Solskajer’s side.
The Holland international midfield man joined the Red Devils last summer and was tipped for a regular role on the starting teamsheet for United in his debut campaign in the Premier League.
However, first-team involvement was sparse for the former Ajax man and speculation persisted over Van de Beek’s Old Trafford future with the onset of the transfer window this summer.
Reports from Manchester Evening News quoted the midfielder’s agent who has sounded out hints that the Dutchman wanted to call it quits at United this summer in the hope of seeking regular football with interest from a number of clubs across Europe in signing the player.
Guido Albers, however, added that Van de Beek has been given an assurance by the Manchester United gaffer Solskjaer that he will be handed his chance to shine over the course of this newly commenced season.
“There was a lot of interest from Italy, Germany, England, so that looked good. But you need co-operation of the club, and it looked like they would, but ultimately they didn’t,” he told Voetbal International.
“Disappointed, but also assuring for him, so that he will get his chance, and will get his minutes, but this will become clear in due time.
“He’s been promised that before, but we came to a clear agreement about this with the club, so we have all faith that it will happen now.”
