Ed Woodward optimistic about fans returning to Old Trafford again

As per Manchester Evening News, Ed Woodward has conveyed a positive message to Manchester United fans ahead of the forthcoming 2021/22 season.

The Red Devils went through a promising yet disappointing spell last season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side completed second in the Premier League and entered the finals of the Europa League.

The 2020/21 season was our 6th trophyless season over the most recent eight years. Notwithstanding the failed deals, Woodward is still optimistic about the fresh new season.

He said: “With the foundations for long-term success in place, including significant initiatives to strengthen engagement with our supporters, we look forward to the upcoming season. The absence of fans over the past year has proved that they are the lifeblood of the game. We remain optimistic about the prospect of fans returning to Old Trafford in larger numbers going forwards.”

Manchester United’s most recent funds showed a 4% drop in income for the first quarter covering January – March 2021. The club’s net debt remains at £443.5million. As per the report, the club accepts the losses addresses a strong model that could withstand the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the new season coming up, Woodward has said that the fans are the lifeblood of the game. With fan participation missing until May, United’s quarterly matchday dropped from £29.1m to £1.6m.

The Premier League allowed every one of their clubs to get 10,000 fans for their last home game of the season. It’s a good sign that the fans may return back soon.

Woodward stays hopeful that fans will have a more important task to carry out in the forthcoming season. With fan’s participation in the stadium slowly growing up, there are chances that the normal routine may resume soon.
