Edinson Cavani looks set to terminate his contract at Man United

According to The Sport,, Edinson Cavani is seeking to leave Manchester United and join Barcelona next month.

Last season, the Uruguayan had a strong first season with the Red Devils, scoring 17 goals in all competitions. Cavani was persuaded to stay for another season in exchange for a higher wage, but his current season has been a disappointment.

After Cristiano Ronaldo’s sensational comeback from Juventus in the summer, he has primarily been as a substitute to the Portuguese. With Ralf Rangnick’s 4-2-2-2 style, his fortunes may change, but he is apparently targeting a move to Camp Nou next month.

Cavani’s move to the Blaugrana is still ‘on track,’ but the club is unlikely to pay a price. The 34-year-old has agreed to terms with the Catalan giants for an 18-month contract that includes a hefty wage decrease for the first six months.

On Tuesday, he will meet with United’s management to discuss cancelling his contract, which is set to end next summer.

Cavani had fitness issues in the first half of last season, but he was crucial for United in the second half, especially during their run to the Europa League final.

This season, he has struggled to have the same impact. During the 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur, the Uruguayan impressed alongside Ronaldo but worsened a tendon injury in the process. Since then, the striker has not appeared in a single league match.

As a result, the hierarchy may be asked to make a decision. Cavani is eager to lead the Blaugrana’s attack. His departure may save United more than £1.5 million in salaries.
