Manchester United’s lookout for a striker this summer has ended well, as the Red Devils have signed Edinson Cavani. The Uruguayan centre-forward is a proven striker at the highest level and is also PSG’s highest all-time goalscorer, which is a testimony to his goalscoring prowess. It has now been confirmed by the Manchester United Official Website that Cavani will be donning the fabled United No. 7 shirt.
Over the years, several great players have worn the No. 7 at United, like Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo. But after the departure of Ronaldo from United, the No.7 shirt seems to be cursed, as every time someone new gets it, he fails at United. Prime examples of such flops are Angel Di Maria, Alexis Sanchez and Memphis Depay.
In his latest talk with ESPN Argentina’s 90 minutes, Cavani said: “It will give me great pride to wear the No 7 shirt for Manchester United. Now I am going to prepare for this responsibility, do my best to be ready and enjoy it and I hope to make my mark at Manchester United.”
El Matador, as Cavani is nicknamed, will need to be in is goalscoring best to make a place in United fans’ hearts. Wearing the No.7 shirt will surely be an added pressure on the shoulder of the striker, but with his experience, it is expected of him to score goals for the Red Devils.
