England center-back Harry Maguire breaks John Terry’s record

Harry Maguire can’t seem to stop himself from scoring… for England.

Maguire scored the opening goal in a resounding Three Lions victory over San Marino, ensuring England’s place in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Maguire’s header from a corner sparked a dominating first half, with England leading 6-0 at the break and going on to win 10-0. This occurred following his opener in Friday night’s 5-0 win over Albania.

Maguire is a considerably more productive player for England than at Manchester United. He currently has seven goals for England in 41 games, compared to six for United in 120 games.

As reported by the club’s official website, the goal against San Marino had historical significance, as it made Maguire the all-time leading scorer for England center-backs. He broke John Terry’s record and the former Chelsea defender congratulated him for his marvelous achievement.

On his official Twitter account, Terry said:

“Congratulations mate. England’s highest goal-scoring defender. Let’s see if a few of these pundits talk about that.”

Maguire has scored five of England’s seven goals in 2021, making it a particularly fruitful campaign for the center-back. Maguire’s confidence will soar as a result of the goals, which come at a crucial time for him.

Manchester United fans have been rightly critical of his recent performances, as well as his captaincy, given the team’s terrible results.

While Maguire’s international opponents Albania and San Marino were below par, he did a good job and will return to Carrington with a little more pep in his step than when he left.

United fans will be hoping he can improve his inconsistent club goal-scoring record this weekend, and the club’s coaching staff should be looking at how he can improve his set-piece accuracy in a Red Devils shirt, starting with Saturday’s game at Watford.
