As reported by ESPN, Eric Bailly could leave Manchester United for one big reason. The signing of Raphael Varane has brought moe competition for the center-back spot. This could cause Bailly to slide further down the pecking order.
Bailly signed a new contract on the 26th of April, 2021. It seems that the new contract has very little to do in relation to his stance about his future. Eric Bailly had admitted months back that he wants to play or else he will consider other options.
It took a lot of effort for United to convince him to stay and sign a new three-year contract. But now it seems that the inclusion of Raphael Varane has brought more doubts regarding Eric Bailly’s place in the squad.
Man United has Victor Lindelof, Axel Tuanzebe, and youngster Mengi as backup options. Of course, Eric Bailly is important as a center-back but a lack of game-time may cause him to search for other alternatives.
It seems that Bailly will certainly not leave this summer. He may access the conditions and then seal a move in January. Manchester United will not let him leave for free.
Eric Bailly has been prone to injuries for the past two years. He has been inconsistent and has been sidelined for months. Varane gives United that cutting edge in terms of his fitness and it will be beneficial for United to find a better solution for Eric Bailly.
