Eric Bailly could move to AC Milan on loan this January

Manchester United is yet to make a signing this transfer window, but they have been in the news when it was revealed last week that up to 17 players are rumoured to want to leave the club, and now discussions have begun to offload one of them.

Manchester United has started talks with AC Milan about signing Eric Bailly on loan this January, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The £87k-per-week centre-back was identified as one of the players linked with a move away from Old Trafford, implying that a mid-season departure could be on the cards.

The renowned transfer expert said:

“Eric Bailly’s future will be decided soon. AC Milan is interested in him as a potential new center back on loan, talks opened – no final decision has been made yet. Manchester United is waiting for further direct contacts with AC Milan in the coming hours/days.”

Fans of the Red Devils have reacted angrily to Romano’s news, with many tweeting their displeasure with the defender’s possible transfer.

Bailly has only made seven appearances in all competitions this season, so it’s no surprise that conversations have begun regarding a transfer for the 27-year-old defender, who has previously expressed his desire to play more football and be a starter in the club.

Ralf Rangnick must make the proper decision about Bailly’s future, particularly as the season progresses and he finds himself in a vulnerable position in the league, seven points shy of a Champions League spot in fourth place.

This season, the team is still in the FA Cup and the Champions League round of 16 knockout stages and will need to preserve the experience and availability of players to finish the season in a far better position than they are now.

Bailly may potentially offer this in his position, which he has been a part of for five years at Old Trafford, despite his limited playing time this season. With so much football left to play this season, the club’s German interim manager’s decision to allow valuable members of the team leave would be a perplexing first move in the transfer market.

It would also be a situation that would leave a number of Old Trafford followers stunned and unhappy at the transfer policy from above once more.
