Eric Cantona predicts Manchester United’s title winning chances this season

Manchester United legend Eric Cantona believes it might take a few years for the Red Devils to win their 14th Premier League title.

The Red Devils are currently nine points adrift of league leaders Arsenal as they go through a transitional period under manager Erik ten Hag.

Although Cantona believes the team lacks the foundation to win every game, the club has the chance to close the gap against the Gunners this month.

The former United captain said that while the team was very strong under Sir Alex Ferguson, things have changed now. While speaking with The Manchester Evening News, Cantona said:

“I arrived in the club and the manager was Alex Ferguson. I arrived at the club that was close to winning the league, we won it when I was playing for Leeds, United were close to winning it. And Alex Ferguson spent a few years, he had time to bring some things and the club was very strong.”

“Now, I think it will take a few years for Manchester United to win it again. I hope not. But I don’t think United’s foundation today is strong enough to win all the games and I think during the time of Alex Ferguson, the best players in the world wanted to come to United. Now it is different, so you have to think differently.”

The atmosphere around Old Trafford has changed since Ten Hag arrived. Players who lacked confidence before this season now have a winning mentality thanks to the Dutchman.

Under Ten Hag, players like Marcus Rashford and Diogo Dalot have excelled, and wise choices have been made when it comes to acquiring new players in the transfer market.

By winning the Carabao Cup this season, United has a great chance to snap its six-year trophy drought. A successful season would include winning a trophy and finishing in the top four. If United can cut the gap on Manchester City and Arsenal, the league title is also within their grasp. The Red Devils would be regarded as legitimate contenders if they defeated both teams this month.
