Erik ten Hag Confident of Retaining Marcus Rashford Amid Stellar Season

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has expressed his strong desire to keep Marcus Rashford at the club following his outstanding performances this season.

The English forward has been in remarkable form, scoring 29 goals and providing 11 assists in 53 appearances.

Ten Hag has repeatedly praised Rashford as “unstoppable” and is now optimistic that the 25-year-old will agree to a new contract with United. Rashford had a challenging season in 2021/22, contributing only seven goals.

However, his career has undergone a transformation under Ten Hag’s guidance this term. Rashford has become a crucial figure in the team, and it is essential for the club’s management to secure his long-term contract.

Currently earning ÂŁ200,000 per week, it is expected that Rashford will seek a significant increase to at least ÂŁ300,000 weekly in order to extend his contract. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, the gaffer said:

“Marcus wants to stay. We want him to stay. So, I think we will find each other. But I don’t talk about the process. I let it go.”

“This [contract process] for me is not important at the moment. Also, for Rashy, not important. For him, it is [important] to be getting more goals in this season.”

“He is playing a wonderful season. The team is playing a wonderful season. Now, we have to get into the Champions League. We have to focus on that.”

Extending Rashford’s stay at the club is viewed as a straightforward decision. The ongoing negotiations regarding the club’s ownership could be a factor delaying the process.

The Glazer family, who own the club, have been in talks with potential buyers for the past six months but have yet to make a final decision on a sale.

Rashford’s current contract will enter its final year in July, and while there is still ample time for discussions, resolving his future could help him regain focus on his game.

After the World Cup, Rashford was exceptional, scoring 16 goals in 17 appearances. However, his goal tally has dropped to just five in the subsequent 17 games for the club, and it is speculated that the ongoing contract speculation may have affected his form in recent months.
