Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has revealed that Anthony Martial is eligible for the upcoming match against Wolverhampton Wanderers tonight.
As the Red Devils prepare to commence their Premier League campaign at Old Trafford against Wolves, the Dutch boss has talked about Martial’s readiness for the game.
After recovering from a hamstring injury, the French player resumed training in the final weeks of the previous month. Despite this, he did not participate in any pre-season matches.
Nevertheless, during a press conference before the match, Ten Hag emphasized that the Frenchman is “ready for selection,”, particularly in relation to the team’s choices for strikers.
While talking to the club’s official website, he said:
“I’m quite calm, composed in this situation, because Rashy is very good as a striker, we have seen it last Saturday. Anthony Martial is available as well.”
“Jadon Sancho can play there as well, he did it in pre-season very well. The squad can deal with it, as I already said this. There is a strategy behind it.”
Last season, the 27-year-old striker showed considerable potential under Ten Hag’s management, yet his involvement on the field was significantly hindered by multiple injuries.
Martial managed to contribute nine goals and four assists across 29 appearances, but his average playing time was limited to just 49 minutes per game. Unfortunately, he was sidelined for a total of 29 matches.
As a £36 million signing, the French ace is currently facing a crucial season with United. Although he is in the final year of his contract, there exists an option for a 12-month extension.
The success of this season could determine Martial’s future with the club. If he continues to struggle with injuries, he might be headed for an exit at the end of the campaign.
Marcus Rashford is expected to be the main striker for the match against Wolves, as Rasmus Hojlund is still recovering from a back injury sustained while at Atalanta.
Martial might be introduced as a substitute. It’s unlikely that he will be in the starting lineup due to his absence from any pre-season action for the club.
