Erik ten hag confirms Scott McTominay is out injured for weeks

As revealed by Erik ten Hag, Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay is expected to miss “two weeks or maybe even longer.”

The club have already faced an injury crisis as Christian Eriksen is out for at least two to three months with a serious injury sustained during United’s game against Reading. However, United is hopeful that he will be able to return in time to participate in the season’s final weeks.

Ten Hag was hopeful that McTominay would be available for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Nottingham Forest. But it seems that the Scottish midfielder will miss these crucial matches and also the Carabao Cup final being played at Wembley.

As reported by The Metro, the Dutch boss said:

“It is, of course, a concern and there are things you have to deal with and you can’t do nothing for it. You can set the squad but in January is dropping out Donny for the rest of the season and Christian Eriksen for part of the season and also Scott McTominay is not available for the coming week, two weeks, maybe even longer.”

“So we have a challenge there, the squad has a challenge. We have quality players there, that is obvious, but the depth is not that good anymore. But we as a team have to deal with that.”

In order to cover for Eriksen, United moved quickly on the day of the transfer deadline to sign Marcel Sabitzer on loan from Bayern Munich.

However, the manager will be troubled by McTominay’s absence amid a busy schedule of games. Meanwhile, Sabitzer will be in contention to make his Premier League debut against Crystal Palace this week.

United will also face Barcelona in the first leg of their Europa League clash this month. However, Sabitzer’s presence does provide some relief because the Austrian international could immediately replace McTominay in the starting XI.
