Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has downplayed his team’s chances of winning the league despite pulling within a point of second-place Manchester City following their derby triumph on Saturday.
With goals from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford, United overcame a 1-0 deficit to win 2-1. Fernandes’ goal was controversially awarded after initially being disallowed for offside.
Rashford scored again and made sure that his team crossed the line at Old Trafford. United have hunted all the big fish this season and are looking clean in the race to win the league title. Although Ten Hag’s team trails league-leading Arsenal, which plays Tottenham on Sunday, by six points, the Dutchman is not getting too excited about winning the title.
As reported by ESPN, he said:
“The fans may dream but we’re not. We have to keep our feet on the ground and then face that our game has a lot to improve.”
United has won nine straight games across all competitions. They are the only English team still playing in four competitions at the halfway point of the season. Ten Hag’s men have emerged victorious in 16 of 19 games since the humbling 6-3 loss to City at the Etihad Stadium in October.
The Red Devils are in scintillating form in the league, and after their recent victories in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, they are already on course to win silverware after a long time.
United is now third in the Premier League and has only suffered one home loss this season.
