According to the Telegraph, Erik ten Hag is expected to choose between Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen as Manchester United’s top transfer target this summer.
United signed Wout Weghorst in January as a temporary striker signing. However, they have now earmarked the striker position as their top priority for the upcoming transfer window.
Ten Hag is ‘unsure’ about several aspects of the 24-year-old’s game, despite watching Osimhen play for Napoli since the start of the season. According to reports, Ten Hag is aware that Kane would fit in well at United and possesses a “special skill set.”
Osimhen would provide Ten Hag with a longer-term answer if he succeeds, but both Kane and Osimhen are expected to cost United at least £100 million this summer.
At the end of the current campaign, Kane will have just one year remaining on his contract with Tottenham. Despite this, the English captain is still demanding a high asking price, and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy would like to move the 29-year-old to a club outside of the Premier League.
Osimhen, who has 16 goals for Napoli this season and leads Serie A in goals scored, would fetch more than £100 million for Napoli. Osimhen has 45 goals in 83 appearances after moving to the Italian club from Lille in an €81.3m (£72.4m) move in 2020.
Additionally, The Telegraph adds that United have abandoned their ambitions to sign Benjamin Sesko because they feel the 19-year-old is “not ready” to take over as Ten Hag’s top striker. Sesko is set to transfer from Red Bull Salzburg to RB Leipzig this summer.
AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham has scored 34 goals in 81 games and is seen by United as a backup option.
