Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has expressed his satisfaction with Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s performances since the start of the season following the World Cup break.
Under the Dutchman earlier in the season, the right-back was completely out of favour. Diogo Dalot started 20 of the club’s 21 games; therefore, Wan-Bissaka only saw four minutes of action off the bench.
After Dalot’s hamstring injury, the English right-back has now been given the opportunity, and Ten Hag is pleased with his performances against Burnley and Nottingham Forest this month.
Prior to the Wolverhampton Wanderers match on New Year’s Eve, Ten Hag said that Wan-Bissaka had previously struggled for playing time because he was either injured or ill. But now the 25-year-old has been doing incredibly well over the last two games for the club.
While speaking to the club’s official website, the gaffer said:
“In the first half of the season, he was either injured or ill, so you don’t have a role in the squad. He returned, he was in the training camp in Spain, where he could play some games in preparation for the restart.”
“Now he has played two games and he is doing really well so I am happy with his performance. But we need that competition in our squad.”
United’s desire to acquire a new right-back generated a lot of discussion earlier this month. It was expected that Wan-Bissaka would depart on a temporary basis.
The former Crystal Palace player, who impressed in his first two games after the World Cup break, has managed to turn around his fortunes. Ten Hag will undoubtedly want him to play a bigger role in the final third, but for the time being, it seems the right-back has managed to revitalise his Red Devils career.
It is presently unknown when Dalot will be able to return following his injury setback while representing his country in the World Cup, so now is the ideal time for Wan-Bissaka to firmly establish himself.
