Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has explained what his team needs to do in order to guarantee a spot in the FA Cup final.
The Red Devils will face Brighton and Hove Albion in an exciting FA Cup semi-final clash today. After a dismal evening against Sevilla in the middle of the week, Ten Hag has pushed his team to put up their best show.
Ten Hag’s side has improved this season, although there have been a few setbacks. They lost to Sevilla, Brentford, Manchester City, Liverpool, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Brentford this season.
Also, it is surprising to know that United has played the most games in the top five leagues this season. Although fatigue and injuries will undoubtedly have an effect, this cannot be used as justification.
United lacked confidence and focus against Sevilla at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium, and they were easily defeated by a strong Spanish side. And now, Ten Hag wants his team to show their true worth and execute their plans.
While speaking to the club’s official website, the gaffer said:
“First of all, bring your own performance. We will make a good plan and, from then on, [try and] execute it. Then you have to manage the game and anticipate if the opponent can do different stuff.”
“You have to anticipate these things and deal with the circumstances – make it your game. We can play football and we have shown this so many times – we beat all the big teams in the Premier League. We know we can do it but, at the moment, you have to do it.”
Since Brighton has played some entertaining football this year, United must be cautious when playing them. They are at ease playing out from the back, and even Pep Guardiola considers them to be among the finest teams in Europe.
The Seagulls’ mentality has changed under Roberto De Zerbi, who is also providing fans with some exhilarating football.
The Red Devils cannot let their guard down and they need to bring out their best against this Brighton side. Another poor performance will affect the player’s morale and also their performances in the games to come.
