Erik ten Hag Gives Injury Updates On Lisandro And Shaw

Manchester United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, shares positive news regarding the team’s important players. Defender Lisandro Martinez might make his comeback in the upcoming match against Brentford on Saturday. Additionally, ten Hag is optimistic that Luke Shaw will return from his injury and get back to form before the season ends.

Lisandro Martinez

Lisandro Martinez has been out of the first team since sustaining ligament damage to his knee during United’s clash against West Ham United on February 4, avoiding an ACL injury which would have seen his season ending prematurely rather than spending a lengthy period on the sidelines regardless. He had only returned after recovering from foot surgery a month before and has only featured in 10 games this season, having been a very important player last season.

The 26-year-old was permitted to link up with the Argentina national team over the last couple of weeks to continue his rehabilitation and is nearing a return to field, with Ten Hag claiming he could be in the matchday squad to face Brentford this weekend.

“Yes, there is a chance [Lisandro will be in the squad],” Ten Hag said at his pre-match press conference.

“We have missed him [in] every game because he brings a composure in the team and a calmness in the team and, at the same time, a winning attitude. He can express this very clearly, he can transfer that to the team and that contributes to our levels.”

Luke Shaw

Ten Hag also dismissed suggestions that Shaw will not play again this term, adding: “I expect him back, I think before the end of the season.

“That is the plan, and he is still on schedule for this. He will return into our team.”

England manager Gareth Southgate put Shaw’s spot at Euro 2024 in doubt this week when he claimed it was unlikely the left-back would be at the required fitness level to play a major role for the Three Lions in the tournament.

United defender. “We know now to play seven matches in a Euros is highly unlikely.”
