As reported by ESPN, Erik ten Hag has admitted that Marcus Rashford has been benched for Manchester United’s New Year’s Eve game against Wolves due to disciplinary issues.
In this week’s 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, Rashford scored once and provided an assist, giving the Red Devils the perfect start to the second half of their Premier League campaign.
Following a disastrous 2021/22 campaign, the forward’s road to redemption has been one of the more uplifting tales of United’s season thus far.
Rashford was unexpectedly benched for the match against Wolves on Saturday, with Alejandro Garnacho entering the lineup in Rashford’s place. Prior to the game, BT Sport questioned Ten Hag as to why Rashford had been benched, and Ten Hag responded:
“Internal disciplinary. No [details]. Our rules. Now focus on the game. He is in very good form and no-one can play all the games.”
Rashford has a total of five goals and three assists this season while starting 14 of United’s 15 Premier League games. With ten goals in all competitions this season, he leads the Red Devils in the goal scoring charts.
If United defeats Wolves before Tottenham’s match against Aston Villa on New Year’s Day, they will overtake Spurs and move into fourth place.Ten Hag’s side will already be busy preparing themselves to face Bournemouth in their next home match on Tuesday.
