As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has not dismissed the possibility of signing Bayern Munich midfielder Marcel Sabitzer on a permanent basis.
Sabitzer, who joined United on loan in January, will be unable to participate in their remaining four matches due to a meniscus injury. During his time with United, the 29-year-old featured in 18 games, scoring three goals.
However, he remains contracted to Bayern until 2025. Since Sabitzer’s arrival at Manchester, Bayern has undergone a coaching change, with Thomas Tuchel taking over from Julian Nagelsmann in March.
While talking about the possibility of retaining the Austrian midfielder, Ten Hag said:
“We will see but it’s not our main focus. The main focus is Bournemouth.”
Sabitzer has been a decent signing for the club. He performed well in Casemiro’s absence but he has been inconsistent in recent games. The midfielder’s recent injury further affected his chances of making a last impression.
It is still unclear whether the club prefers to splash £20 million to buy him permanently or sign another quality midfielder with that sum of money.
Ten Hag also admitted that he observed Phil Jones training for a mere 20 minutes during his tenure as United’s manager.
United recently confirmed that the 31-year-old defender, who has been affected by a chronic knee problem, will depart the club when his contract expires next month. Jones has made only two starts for United in the past three years.
