Erik ten Hag reveals the extent of Alejandro Garnacho’s latest injury

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has revealed that Alejandro Garnacho sustained a significant injury during last weekend’s scoreless Premier League game against Southampton.

On Sunday, Kyle Walker-Peters made a strong challenge on the Argentine player in the box, and for several minutes afterward, the player was clearly in pain.

Ten Hag finally replaced Garnacho, and the manager has since stated that he is unable to estimate how soon Garnacho will recover from the unfortunate setback.

The Dutchman stated in his news conference prior to the Real Betis match that Garnacho’s injury is “severe” and will keep him out for a number of weeks.

While speaking to the club’s official website, he said:

“I can’t say exactly at this moment but it will take weeks. So it’s a serious injury I didn’t expect.”

“A foul and a serious injury once again, after Christian Eriksen, a serious injury after a contact. He makes good progression and he was selected by the national team.”

“He was in a really good development. He will be back before the end of the season. We can win a lot so he has to be ready.”

Garnacho, who played in 31 games, had an outstanding debut season, contributing to nine goals. He has directly assisted in a number of game-winning occasions. The young player will now have to wait for his debut after suffering an ankle injury. It was unfortunate that he did not make Argentina’s World Cup squad last year.

Garnacho has additional time to recover from the setback with the upcoming international break, and ideally he will play for the club in the remaining games of the season.

As the young attacker hasn’t played much football lately, players like Anthony Elanga and Facundo Pellistri can now step up as a result of his setback.

The pair are expected to depart on loan next season, but they still have a chance to make the boss change his mind by putting up some outstanding performances.
