Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag stated that despite Antony’s great performance in the 3-1 victory over Reading, there is still room for improvement.
The 22-year-old received criticism for his lackluster performance against Arsenal the previous week. In the second half, Fred eventually took his spot since he was unable to show his true potential down the flanks.
But last night at Old Trafford, the Brazilian was at the top of his game. He made a great pass that helped Casemiro score his first goal. A second goal was also scored by the former Real Madrid midfielder before Fred added the final goal with a backheel flick.
Ten Hag stated that there is still potential for improvement from Antony despite his great performance. As reported by the Manchester Evening News, the gaffer said:
“I have more experience with him. We have to challenge him and if you challenge him he can adapt and adjust his game. He has to be more variable, more dynamic. He needs his teammates around him, but also how to use his teammates. He has to work on it. I think there is still room for improvement.”
The former Ajax winger arrived at Old Trafford in the summer as part of a massive £82 million transfer. Antony was put under a lot of pressure due to the enormous price tag.
The 22-year-old hasn’t had much success so far, but his last two performances were outstanding. Against Nottingham Forest, Antony troubled the defenders with his pace. He was much more direct and nearly scored.
The winger was even better last night against Reading. He claimed a pass accuracy of over 80% and finished all of his long balls. The Brazilian had a really productive game with 78 touches, four crucial passes, two dribbles, and an assist.
