The relationship between Cristiano Ronaldo and new Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is said to have hit a new low after the star striker’s latest actions.
The Dutch manager has slammed the 37-year-old striker for leaving the match in between and departing from the stadium. Ten Hag was dissatisfied that Ronaldo and a few other United players that showed unacceptable behaviour had left Old Trafford prior to the conclusion of their preseason-friendly game on July 31 against Rayo Vallecano.
It seems that the Portuguese legend is more determined than ever to sign with a new team before the transfer market closes on September 1 and his actions justify his demands. As he looks to leave United in quest of Champions League football, he has been connected with the best teams in Europe.
However, he has fewer options to choose from as top clubs like Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid have rejected a move for the striker.
However, Ten Hag was critical of the behavior shown by Ronaldo in his presence. According to the Metro, after the team’s final preseason match, the previous Ajax manager expressed his displeasure with the forward’s behavior by saying:
“It is unacceptable for everyone. I am telling them it’s unacceptable. We are a team. A squad. Until the end, we stay together.”
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner hadn’t played for Manchester United in 12 years until last summer. With 24 goals scored in 38 games throughout the season, he was the club’s leading scorer.
However, his squad had a terrible season; as a result of their sixth-place finish, Ten Hag will get his team ready for Europa League to play this year. Cristiano Ronaldo may not be in favour of staying at Old Trafford but it not be easy for him to leave as he hardly has options to choose from.
