Erik ten Hag to begin preseason training with SAS style ‘hell week’ at Carrington

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United are scheduled to commence their pre-season training at the beginning of July under manager Erik ten Hag.

The Dutch boss is planning an intense week of training at Carrington to ensure his squad is in optimal condition for a title challenge. After a demanding season that included the World Cup in Qatar, the players are currently enjoying a well-deserved break.

However, those who did not participate in international matches this month will report for pre-season on July 3. As soon as the players arrive at Carrington, they will undergo rigorous testing, and staff members expect a challenging “hell week” reminiscent of SAS-style training.

Last summer, Ten Hag implemented exercises like press-ups and other fitness forfeits to foster team spirit. The upcoming pre-season is expected to involve a similarly demanding training regime under the guidance of Ten Hag.

United’s squad can expect a challenging first week of pre-season training, with four days of double sessions planned by the manager.

After participating in 62 matches last season, including two cup finals and the Europa League quarter-finals, the team appeared fatigued at times.

Ten Hag is determined to prevent a similar scenario this time and is expected to implement four days of intense training sessions in the opening week. He aims to ensure that United avoids a slow start, similar to last season when they lost their first two games against Brighton and Brentford.

The Dutch manager believes that the Red Devils can challenge for the title in the upcoming 2023-24 season but acknowledges the importance of a strong start.

One player likely to be involved from the start of pre-season is Lisandro Martinez. The Argentine defender missed the final two months of the previous season due to a fractured metatarsal but has shared a video of himself running and declared his return to full fitness.

Ten Hag may soon challenge Martinez during pre-season training to test his readiness and push the United squad to peak physical condition for the upcoming campaign.
