Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag wants his players to be focused ahead of Sunday’s Premier League match against West Ham United in the London Stadium.
The Red Devils faced an ignited Brighton & Hove Albion side yesterday, but they ultimately lost after giving up a last-minute penalty. The team was unable to finish their attacking moves and the missed chances cost them all three points at the end.
Speaking after the game, Ten Hag claimed that Casemiro, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, and Antony all had scoring opportunities against the Seagulls.
The Dutch strategist continued by saying that he has no worries about the loss, but that it’s more important to be focused and make sure that the squad doesn’t lose games in the closing seconds.
As reported by the club’s official website, Ten Hag said:
“We had clear chances with Antony dos Santos, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Casemiro. They all create opportunities and one has to be in. I don’t have concerns.”
“It’s about keeping the focus and we shouldn’t lose the focus in the final and dying seconds of the game. Then we take that point and, in the end, if you can’t win it because you don’t finish your chances, then don’t lose.”
Despite the heartbreaking loss against Brighton, United is still well-positioned to place among the top four teams. After 33 games, the Red Devils have 63 points, four more than Liverpool with a game remaining.
They, therefore, control their Champions League destiny, but they must not become overconfident. The manager will be hoping for a strong response when his team faces the Hammers on Sunday.
It can be another difficult challenge, therefore United must bury their scoring chances. The Red Devils should be the favourites to win this contest as they have historically outperformed the Hammers.
Ten Hag’s side has won the previous four league games against David Moyes’ team.
