Erik ten Hag will receive a £70m transfer war chest in January

According to the Sun, Erik ten Hag will be given a £70 million January transfer war chest, which will rise to almost £100 million if Cristiano Ronaldo leaves the club.

The Dutchman was eager to make his mark on his team after being chosen as Ralf Rangnick’s replacement in the summer. Given how much of a mess Manchester United was during the 2021/22 season, this is hardly surprising.

Several first-team players like Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Eric Bailly and other stars have left the club giving room for more signings.

When it comes to their setup behind the scenes, United is not quite at the level of Manchester City or Liverpool, and this frequently affects their ability to make recruits.

Cody Gakpo was regarded as a less expensive option, but on the day before the transfer deadline, they decided to move away from a deal. They pursued only Antony, who joined United along with a new backup goalkeeper in Martin Dubravka.

The Red Devils may have spent as much as £84.8 million on Antony, bringing their total expenditure to over £215 million. They did not splash out as much as Chelsea (£250m), but they still supported their new manager this summer.

A few players are still with the team after trying to leave in January. If United had signed a new right-back, Aaron Wan-Bissaka would have left the club, while Cristiano Ronaldo was eager to go with a Champions League team.
