Well that sums up the season for the “Red Devils”. A top four spot now is out of question as Everton has done the unthinkable. A right-footed shot from Anthony Gordon, heavily deflected of Maguire’s body was enough for the ball to go in. De Gea could only watch the ball go in and look ferociously towards the linesman to raise the off-side flag.
The level of performance displayed today just shows how weak this team is. Everton has been one of the worst team defensively and the fact that United couldn’t score a goal proves that United are way behind a lot of clubs in the League. Players failed to show determination and passion at this crucial stage of the season.
A huge blow for the United defence as Fred left the pitch before half time with an injury. It was a nervous half of football and the youngest man on the pitch, Anthony Gordon provided the key moment in the half. The Everton fans roared as loud as they could to cheer their team as the half-time whistle blew. United has surprisingly clocked the lowest percentage (47%) of win rate in the PL under Ragnick. This has set another record for being the all-time lowest win-rate by any United manager in this prestigious competition.
In the 2nd half, each and every Everton corner, throw-ins were deemed with sheer pleasure and joy. Pickford has been a stand out for the home side making some crucial blocks in the first half denying Rashford twice. Alex Telles made a risky challenge in the 2nd half inside the penalty box when a light collision with Gordon saw him falling inside the box. Fortunately, Jon Moss waved play on.
Pogba tried a shot from long distance minutes later which was comfortably held by Pickford who has been phenomenal the entire afternoon. United tried their best to emulate the score but failed consistently in Everton’s organized defensive half. United enjoyed long spells of pressure and possession in both the halves but failed to create the positive impact desperately needed at that moment.
In the final minutes of the game, United yet again came close to score the equaliser when Maguire handed Ronaldo a cross just about 10 yards out, but his shot was saved by the gallant Jordan Pickford. This three points against United proved clinical for the Toffees they as they are now 4 points above the relegation zone.
