Manchester United visits the Goodison Park this Saturday. Last time out in the “Theatres of Dream” the game ended with a 1-1 score line. Martial and Andros Townsend scored for United and Everton respectively. The last time United defeated Everton was back in November 2020, when a Bruno Fernandes brace and a stoppage time goal from Edison Cavani was enough to seal the victory for the men in red.
United are desperate to get the three points in the bag as this can prove to be clinical in the top four hopes. Game against Leicester City last weekend poised serious blows to the Champions League spot. Ever since Everton got Frank Lampard as a new manager, they have only managed to win one game out of nine PL fixtures. Moreover, Everton are on the verge of being relegated this season. Everton lost another opportunity last game day when they were totally outclassed by a tough Burnley side who came from behind and won the game. Calvert Lewin another important player for the Toffees seems to be out with an inury.
United needs to watch out for Richalison who can pose a great threat to a shaky United defence. Luke Shaw was subbed off last game week in the half time due to an injury which might rule him out this fixture. Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to be back amongst the the starting XI as he missed the last game due to illness.
Harry Maguire seemed a lot composed against Leicester City, which might eventually be helpful in a better United defence on Saturday. Raphael Varane and Fred has consistently proved to be an important asset in the United squad. Anthony Elanga and Jadon Sancho seems to the starter against Everton which might again rule out Rashford from the starting XI. Rashford seems to be the prefect starter for this fixture as his great pace will come handy in United’s counter-attacking play.
Fred is on a brilliant form lately this season, scoring four goals and having four assists in 24 PL games for United this season. Defensive abilities have been a major drawback for the United side but the way he has upgraded his form needs to be appreciated. Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba has played a pivotal part in a lot of games this season and are surely going to be the starters for the upcoming fixture.
Match Prediction-
Keeping in mind United’s defence and the form that Everton has recently, United definitely has the upper hand in this important fixture. This game can surely change the scenario of the table as United might again enter the race for the top-four. With Ronaldo’s inclusion in the squad, he is definitely going to make the difference along with a Bruno Fernandes goal or assist. Richalison seems to open the scoring book for the Toffees in this fierce fixture.
