In the January transfer window, Manchester United and Solskjaer wanted to sign a world-class attacking midfielder as the team was struggling for goals. The Red Devils had earlier scouted the likes of Bruno Fernandes of Sporting Lisbon, who was linked to United throughout the summer. Former United player, Patrice Evra, revealed how he and Cristiano Ronaldo helped United sign Fernandes.
Solskjaer was desperate to add goals and assists to the United midfield which lacked impetus and the crucial final ball. The Norwegian had finally decided to get in Bruno Fernandes and had thus asked Evra to contact Ronaldo on Fernandes’ attitude. Cristiano Ronaldo has played with Bruno Fernandes for the Portuguese National team and thus knew about Fernandes’ attitude on and off the pitch.
While speaking to the Guardian, Evra said: “When they wanted to sign Bruno Fernandes, Ole texted me. I asked for advice from Cristiano Ronaldo. Cristiano says: ‘Bruno’s a good guy and very professional.’ I say: ‘Ole, I’ve spoken with Cristiano. Let’s go for it.” Following this conversation, Bruno Fernandes was signed in January and has since then been instrumental in United’s success.
The Portuguese midfielder has lost only twice since joining United and is going to be pivotal for the club’s success in the near future.
