Fabrizio Romano provides Van de Beek transfer update

After a disappointing 18-month spell with Manchester United, midfielder Donny van de Beek is expected to leave in the January transfer window.

After battling for game time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the 24-year-old has been linked with a transfer away from Old Trafford since the summer, and he now appears to be on his way.

According to Fabrizio Romano, a well-known journalist and transfer specialist, there are “many clubs interested” in van de Beek’s talents, and the creative talent plans to leave Manchester in quest of regular game time.

He also went on to say that Real Madrid is not interested in signing him but other top clubs are still waiting to sign him in the upcoming transfer window.

Following a domestic double with boyhood club Ajax in 2019 and a vital role in their run to the Champions League semi-finals, Van de Beek’s arrival on English shores the following year was met with great anticipation among United supporters.

His record for the Amsterdam club, which included 41 goals and 34 assists in 175 appearances, suggested that he was more than capable of adjusting to the demands of the Premier League, but things haven’t gone as planned.

Donny was unable to push his way into Solskjaer’s starting XI last season, appearing on just 15 occasions in all competitions from the start, and his playing time has been even more limited this season.

In five appearances, the technically gifted player has seen just 154 minutes of action, he completed 90 minutes only once and that came in the Carabao Cup third-round defeat to West Ham United. And now, as the transfer window approaches, it appears like Van de Beek will be leaving the club, which will leave many Red Devils fans disappointed.

His earlier exploits at Ajax and numerous encouraging cameo appearances at United have demonstrated his truly world-class potential, but he appears destined to fulfil that promise somewhere after not being given the chance to do so at Old Trafford.

This is a terrible situation that will undoubtedly leave fans disappointed.
