Five players United should sell after sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been fired after a set of poor results in the last month, including losses to arch-rivals Liverpool and Manchester City. However, their 4-1 loss to Watford on Saturday put the final nail in the coffin.

When the team isn’t performing well, it’s simple for supporters and pundits to point the finger at the manager, but the truth at United is a little different. Despite the fact that Ole was not as tactically competent as the other managers, several players in this squad have been below standard for a long time.

Obviously several United players will be dejected after the loss against Watford but players like Harry Maguire showed their love for partying and Casino games as he was spotted enjoying with his friends.

The players have been equally responsible for the current status of the club but their seriousness is a major doubt. Whether or not, the club hires a manager quickly, the players still need to be way better than they are right now.

Some of them have been continuously awful and a disgrace when it comes to representing the badge. Here are a few players United should let go in the approaching transfer window or during the summer.

5. Anthony Martial

When it comes to leaving Old Trafford, the striker must be at the top of the list. The Frenchman has been fighting with injuries for several months, and every time he has been given the opportunity to show himself, he has continually failed. He’s also very down the pecking order at the moment.

Players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, and Mason Greenwood are well ahead of him in the No. 9 slot. The 25-year-old was rumored to be the next Thierry Henry when he was bought from Monaco for £36 million (possibly increasing to £58 million) in 2015.

In 266 appearances, he has scored 79 goals and provided 50 assists but he has been largely inconsistent over the years. As Solskjaer had a good squad depth, he was not in a hurry to start the French striker.

He has played just six games this season and has scored one goal but those have been substitute appearances. The French striker is being targeted by clubs like Juventus who are eager to bring him to Italy on loan.

4. Fred

Despite being a revelation for his country, Brazil, he appears to have no idea how to play for United. Despite the fact that Fred has put in numerous low-level performances for Manchester United this season, Ole has always trusted him way more than Van de Beek.

But turning his back on the Dutch midfielder was a wrong decision, as Fred was so easily dominated by the opposition midfielders. On the ball, the defensive midfielder has been unpredictable and error-prone, never looking dominant and assured.

He is unquestionably not a long-term solution for United, and there are numerous players that could be an excellent upgrade. Even the fans are waiting to see the Brazilian get axed from the starting XI.

3. Paul Pogba

His contract with Man United is slated to expire next summer, and he is nearly certain to leave on a free transfer. He and his agent, Mino Raiola, are currently the main liability for United, and the club should not even consider offering him a new contract.

Pogba has never performed consistently on the pitch despite being one of United’s best assets, and his off-field antics have always brought United fans more difficulty than delight during his five and a half years at Old Trafford.

His agent has long flirted with the possibility of the French midfielder leaving and has made provocative statements before big games.

The Italian agent indicated last year, ahead of United’s important Champions League match against RB Leipzig, that Pogba had no desire to continue at United. United’s leadership will be better off without Pogba and his agency in the future.

2. Phil Jones

When it comes to Phil Jones, there isn’t much to say. Given the defender’s poor performance over the last few years, the Red Devils need to move him out. He’s been out with injuries since January 2020 and hasn’t featured for United since then.

The Red Devils already have Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane, and Eric Eric Bailly as center-backs, therefore it will be in both party’s best interests to part ways. Despite his injury difficulties and unreliability, Jones was given a new four-year contract at the club in 2019.

1. Jesse Lingard

His performances at United have been erratic throughout his career, and given the club’s current level of attacking quality, it’s nearly difficult for him to be a regular at this club. This time around, he’s put in a few good performances, but former boss Ole never fully trusted him.

It’s the best time for the management to get rid of him in the forthcoming transfer window. The 28-year-old has been linked with a January move to West Ham United, which would be a terrific movie.

The player will get the regular playing time he craves, and United will be able to shred some money out of their wage bill.
