Flamengo not interested in offering a permanent deal to Andreas Pereira

Andreas Pereira’s future at Manchester United is uncertain after his current loan club Flamengo failed to pay the €10.5 million agreed upon to make the loan permanent.

The Brazilian giants had agreed to a deal with the English club that contained a buy-back option for about €10.5 million and a 25% sell-on clause.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Flamengo has now decided not to activate the option due to financial concerns, instead of informing Andreas’ parent club about extending the loan until December.

United flatly rejected that offer, claiming to have received an offer from an anonymous club that exceeds the €10.5 million pre-agreed amount with Flamengo in February. Flamengo has instead turned their attention to Everton Cebolinha of Benfica.

Andreas’ high-profile error in a cup final turned Flamengo fans against him, which may have been the underlying reason Flamengo’s officials were hesitant to finalize the deal.

It’s unclear whether the United academy graduate will return to Old Trafford for preseason or will depart the club permanently.

The midfielder, who was born in Belgium, last played for the Premier League team in 2020. Even when he made appearances, he never truly lit up the stage, and he was better known for his pre-season heroics than for what he did throughout the season.

During an eight-year period, the former PSV Eindhoven sensation has made 75 appearances for the Red Devils. The midfielder’s contract will expire in the year 2023.

At this time, both parties would benefit from a permanent transfer. While Andreas is at a stage in his career where he needs to be playing consistently rather than sitting on the bench, Erik ten Hag should avoid putting the versatile player back into the group.

United wants a fair price for a player who has been surplus to requirements for a long time, and the player wants to feel the affection of a new club and fans.

He has been on loan at several clubs, including Granada, Lazio, and recently Flamengo. He has barely exhibited glimpses of his talent even throughout his temporary tenure.

Last summer, the midfielder joined the Brazilian giants on loan and appeared 48 times in all competitions, including 24 times in the 2022 season.
