Manchester United FC legend Garry Neville has issued a warning to Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer regarding David de Gea’s disappointing form. The Spanish goalkeeper was to be blamed for letting in Steven Bergwijn’s goal in United’s recent EPL fixture.
Bergwijn’s shot was aimed straight at the Manchester United FC goalkeeper. However, De Gea was unable to deflect the strike and instead went on to punch the ball into his own net. This mistake was an overall picture of the Spanish international’s shambolic performance on Friday night against Tottenham Hotspurs.
De Gea’s run as the Red Devils goalkeeper has come under the lens in recent times. Once regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, his recent performances in the Manchester United FC shirt has led to fans asking for his ouster. De Gea has made too many errors in recent fixtures which have contributed to the opposition scoring against the Red Devils.
There is much clamour among the Manchester United FC supporters for Dean Henderson to be chosen as their side’s first-choice goalkeeper next season. The 23-year old Henderson has been on loan for two seasons at Sheffield United, where he has excelled.
The English shot-stopper has the second-highest number of clean sheets this season in the Premier League.
Henderson’s existing contract with the Red Devils runs until 2022. There is a chance that the on-loan Sheffield goalkeeper may be given the backup role to De Gea next season.
Garry Neville has stated that De Gea’s dip in form may be related to the player’s decreasing confidence levels. The Spaniard has come under increased criticism recently from fans and football pundits alike. Moreover, Dea Gea has performed poorly for the Spanish national team as well for the past two years.
Former Red Devils captain and now football pundit, Roy Keane lashed out at De Gea’s horrible showing against Spurs. Keane voiced his anger at the errors made by the goalkeeper in the game and asked for him to be dropped for Manchester United FC’s next game in the Premier League.
