Former Manchester United flop Morgan Schneiderlin completes shock move to Western Sydney Wanderers

As reported by the Manchester Evening news, the former Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has completed an unexpected transfer to Western Sydney Wanderers.

The 33-year-old has been loaned out by Nice to the Australian team until the end of the current campaign. Schneiderlin, who moved to United from Southampton in 2015 for £25 million, has not played for Nice this year despite being owned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Although he only played for United for 18 months, he was at Old Trafford when they won the FA Cup. The former France international midfielder played 47 games with the Red Devils before being sold to Everton for £24 million.

Later, in the summer of 2020, he moved to Nice; however, so far this season, he hasn’t played for the team. The Western Sydney Wanderers are currently third in the A-League standings. Despite playing two more games than the table-toppers, they remain six points behind leaders Melbourne City.

The Wanderers’ next game is on February 5 against Western United, when Schneiderlin might make his debut. The French midfielder started his career in France with Strasbourg before transferring to Southampton in 2008.

Before joining the Red Devils in 2015, he helped the Saints in their 2012 promotion to the Premier League. The midfielder also travelled with France to the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Euros.
