Former Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata is close to joining Turkish giants Galatasaray this summer.
The 34-year-old maestro left the Old Trafford outfit after an impressive eight-year tenure at the club. The World Cup winner made over 285 appearances for the Red Devils since joining Chelsea in 2014.
The arrival of new manager Erik ten Hag ignited the player to search for a transfer away from England. League rivals Leeds United were interested in a move but the Whites didn’t negotiate with the Spanish star’s agent.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Super Lig side Galatasaray is close to agreeing on a deal to sign the former Real Madrid academy graduate on a one-year deal. Juan Mata played his last game against Crystal Palace in May 2022.
Galatasaray are in urgent need of reinforcements after finishing 13th in the league last season. It was their worst run in the Super Lig since its inauguration in 1959.
The Turkish club is no more to mess around this time as they have signed some top players this summer. Star players like Lucas Torreira, Mauro Icardi, Yusuf Demir and Dries Mertens have all moved through the doors of Nef Stadyumu.
They are currently placed seventh in the league and will be looking forward to having their strongest possible line-up with them in the upcoming matches.
