Former United star Daley Blind warns Donny van de Beek amid lack of game time

Girona defender Daley Blind has sent a warning to Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek in an exclusive interview with The Athletic.

Van de Beek has been part of the Red Devils for the last three seasons but has only managed to contribute two goals and two assists in 61 appearances across all competitions.

Presently, the Dutchman finds himself as surplus to requirements, and when questioned about him, Blind mentioned that van de Beek is a genuine number 10 who has the ability to adjust to different positions if given the opportunity.

In an interview, the 33-year former United star, who used to be teammates with Van de Beek at Ajax, expressed his belief that the midfielder possesses the talent to excel at Old Trafford.

However, he noted that at the club, there’s little patience, and opportunities are not guaranteed, implying that van de Beek needs to seize his chances to make an impact.

He said:

“Donny is a real No.10 and there are not a lot of teams who play with a No.10 in top football. I think he can adapt to new positions if he gets time. He has the quality to be a top player at Manchester United, but United doesn’t wait for anyone.”

Van de Beek was brought to United in the summer of 2020 following several impressive seasons at Ajax.

Initially seen as a versatile midfielder who could cover various areas of the pitch, he has struggled to adjust to the fast-paced nature of the Premier League.

On many occasions, he has appeared somewhat out of place. Additionally, the consistent performances of Bruno Fernandes in the number 10 role have further complicated Van de Beek’s situation, as Fernandes has consistently provided goals and assists.

The Dutch star has seen very limited action in his preferred position. He has occasionally featured in cup matches but has failed to make the most of those opportunities.

During the summer, there was interest from Real Sociedad and Galatasaray, but no transfer materialized.

We believe that in January, he might receive more offers, especially now that he has fully recovered from a long-term knee injury. However, it is now expected that the club might struggle to recoup £10-15 million in a future sale.
