Former United star Wayne Rooney hails ‘fantastic servant’ Cristiano Ronaldo

Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney hailed Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo as the 37-year-old announced his departure from the club.

Ronaldo and Rooney have played together for a few years, and both of them achieved great success together at United. However, after leaving the club, the striker didn’t share the same relationship with the English star.

A month ago, Rooney talked about the striker and his status at the club. The Portuguese hit back in his latest interview with Piers Morgan, where he brutally criticised the former United player.

A week after his interview, the 37-year-old decided to end his tenure at the club and search for a new challenge elsewhere. The club has officially announced that the striker has decided to leave the club by mutual consent.

On hearing this shocking news, Rooney hailed the Portuguese star for his immense contribution to the club. As reported by the Manchester Evening News, he said:

“I think it’s sad. But I think once everyone’s seen the interview, with Piers Morgan and how he attacked the club. I think there was no option. There’s no option for this [not] to happen, so I’m not surprised, no.”

“It’s a shame because he’s been a fantastic servant for Manchester United and I wish him all the best which whichever club he goes to next. “

United fans have been hit hard by the news, but they were even more shocked to hear that the Glazers have decided to sell the club.

The Red Devils have been witnessing some drastic changes overnight, even if those issues have been present for a long time. At this moment, Erik ten Hag will be focused on signing an attacker in the January transfer window, and this could be a perfect opportunity for him to make a move. Meanwhile, the club’s future will be determined by the owner’s willingness to sell it at a realistic price. Another point worth mentioning is Ronaldo’s future after leaving Old Trafford.

Several clubs are linked with a move for the veteran forward, and it remains to be seen whether he decides to stay in the Premier League or sign for a foreign club in January.
