Former Manchester United target Ivan Perisic has open about why his “dream” move to Manchester United broke down two years ago. The Croatian international was targeted by then united boss Jose Mourinho when he was at Inter Milan in 2017 but the move fell apart.
The 30-year-old has not revealed the exact reason behind why his move collapsed but insists that he is happy at Bayern Munich.
The winger told The Athletic: “How close was I to going [to Man Utd]? Very close.
“It was an amazing thing for me when Jose called me. It was difficult to say no to him.
“In fact, I really, really wanted to join him and play for United. It was a dream of mine to play in all the big leagues.
“But it didn’t happen. It was painful for me. But I don’t want to go into the details.
“I only found out the real reasons two years later.”
Perisic was signed on loan by Bayern Munich in the summer after he was deemed surplus to requirements by Inter Milan head coach Antonio Conte. The winger has hit the ground running at Bayern with two goals and an assist in three league games so far.
Bayern sits at the top of the table in the Bundesliga with 14 points in six games and are three points ahead of title contenders Dortmund.
Manchester United meanwhile are eleventh in the Premier League table with just two wins in six games and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be under pressure when they take on Arsenal at Old Trafford on Monday.
