Fred Opens Up On ‘Awful’ Debut Season With Manchester United

Manchester United star Fred has lifted the lid on his first season at the club and termed it as “awful” as he attempted to settle into life in the English top tier.

Fred signed for the Red Devils in the summer of 2018 after five seasons with Shakhtar Donetsk but struggled to impress under then-manager Jose Mourinho before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took charge of the club.

The Brazilian midfielder was initially regarded as a failed signing due to his rather underwhelming displays but has managed to turn his Manchester United career around with a number of strong performances this campaign before the season was halted due to the coronavirus crisis in the UK.

The 27-year-old Fred conceded that his debut season at the red half of Manchester was one to forget but now that he’s settled, the combative midfielder is prepared to help the club re-establish themselves as one of the best sides in England.

While speaking to AP News, Fred explained the reason behind his poor first season citing a mix of personal reasons as well, ″I believe the first season was very difficult for me,  There was the process of settling down here, but also other personal things that were happening in my life, such as the birth of my son. So I believe it was a mix of reasons that made me have an awful first season. “

However, much to the delight of the United faithful, Fred added that he’s enjoying playing his football after settling to the pace of the Premier League, “I’m definitely settled in every aspect now. I’ve been enjoying some good performances and the chance of playing a great sequence of games. That was also helpful. I’m delighted with this season. I’m now playing well and hopefully, I can keep the momentum if the league returns. I just want to give my best for this club, trying to be a key part of the team.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were sitting in fifth place on the Premier League table before the season was suspended just four points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
