Fred’s availability confirmed for the fixture with Newcastle United

Manchester United’s official website has confirmed that Brazilian mid-fielder Fred will be in attendance as they face Newcastle United at Old Trafford.

This follows the occasion of the Brazilian Football Association issuing a ban on its players from attending their fixtures for their respective clubs in the Premier League and Champions League.

Fred was set to miss today’s Newcastle United match and the fixture with Young Boys in the Champions League tournament.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s opinion on these circumstances was reported on the website.

“I think it’s a lose, lose, lose situation for everyone, national teams, players, clubs. It’s been a farce really. The players want to play but we all know what kind of situation we find ourselves in over the last year and a half with the pandemic, the travel, everyone trying to limit the spread of the virus. Of course, we worked really hard before this to try to find a way, private jets, you know. There are ways to get them in and out but all the decisions have gone against the players, that’s for sure. They want to play for the national teams, they want to play for the clubs and they’re not allowed. For me, I’m disappointed with the whole thing; common sense might not be so common anymore. We need to prepare for the game without Fred but still, [we have] fingers crossed that some sense can come into people’s minds and we can use him.”

Current reports have stated that the South American Federations have decided to “waive off the rule, following extensive discussions with FIFA.”

The other Brazilian players who were set to miss their respective matches namely, Liverpool’s Allison, Fabinho, and Roberto Firmino, Chelsea’s Thiago Silva, Man City’s Ederson and Gabriel Jesus, and Leeds’ Raphina are now set to be available for their own matches.
