Manchester United have been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of signing Frenkie de Jong this summer. The Red Devils are reportedly interested in making a move for the Dutchman, but he has no desire to leave his “dream club.”
Frenkie de Jong has replied to reports connecting him with a move to Manchester United by stating that he would “prefer to stay with Barcelona.”
De Jong joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019 for £65 million and has since established himself as an important member of the club, appearing in 139 games across all competitions.
The 25-year-old midfielder is under contract at Camp Nou until 2026, but it has been suggested that the Blaugrana may be forced to transfer him this summer in order to reduce the wage bill.
Frenkie de Jong has only won one prize in his three years at Camp Nou, the Copa Del Rey, but he has no regrets about joining the Spanish giants and wants to stay for the foreseeable future.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, he said:
“I’m very happy to be in Barcelona. I’ve wanted to be here since I was little so it’s been a dream come true. Of course, I would have liked to have won more trophies than I have in my first two years. I expected more in that sense, let’s put it like that. But apart from that, I’m very happy here and I hope to be here for many more years.”
“I hear about the links to Manchester United, but the people in charge of Barça didn’t tell me anything. So then I will assume that there is no agreement, nothing to worry about. Contacts with ten Hag? I won’t tell you this.”
After appointing former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag as their new permanent manager, United is seen to be in a strong position to sign De Jong.
The two previously worked together at Johan Cruyff Arena, and it’s been said that Ten Hag wants to get them back together at Old Trafford. De Jong, on the other hand, believes that he has had no touch with his old manager or anyone else from Manchester United.
However, still, there are chances for a transfer as Barcelona needs to balance their financial books and could accept an offer if it comes for the right price. This leaves De Jong’s future in jeopardy as nothing has been discussed yet.
