The Reds appeared to be heading for a 1-1 draw with the London club, but our Argentinian youngster snatched all three points with the game’s final kick.
Christian Eriksen scored in the 14th minute, but former Reds attacker Daniel James equalised on the hour mark.
But, three minutes into injury time, a fantastic one-two between Eriksen and Garnacho saw the latter slot past Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno and win a close contest for Erik ten Hag’s men. The hosts got off to a fast start and nearly put the Reds behind, with Carlos Vinicius scoring the first goal. Willian played the ball into him, but David De Gea saved his effort.
It took the Reds 10 minutes to get into the game, and in our first attack, Anthony Martial forced Bernd Leno into a great save. The combination of Luke Shaw’s fantastic pass down the left and Rashford’s equally brilliant run resulted in the latter holding the ball up before laying it off into the path of Martial. Fulham’s shot-stopper tipped the Frenchman’s effort wide. Only a few minutes passed before we broke the deadlock, much to the delight of our travelling fans.
The goal was the result of an excellent team move that began with a Casemiro interception to get us started. Eriksen and Martial were involved before Fernandes played the crucial cross-goal pass to our Danish midfielder, who was perfectly placed. The Reds relied on De Gea several times in the first half to keep the hosts at bay, with the highlight coming when he denied Harry Wilson from close range, averting an almost certain equaliser.
Just before the break, United created two clear-cut chances that could have given Ten Hag’s men an even bigger advantage. Martial headed just over from Shaw’s whipped cross, and Eriksen was almost at the double but his shot fizzed narrowly wide. Fulham came out in the second half determined to equalise, and De Gea was forced to deny them twice in quick succession
Our Spaniard between the posts denied Vinicius yet again, before Martinez assisted for a corner. Former Reds midfielder Andreas Pereira swung in the delivery, which was met by a towering Tim Ream, and De Gea superbly saved his header at point-blank range to keep the Reds ahead.
As the hour mark approached, both managers made substitutions, with United bringing on Scott McTomina for Anthony Elanga and Fulham replacing Harry Wilson with former Reds forward James. James equalised for the London club just minutes after his introduction. The Welshman made a good run between our central defenders before slotting home Tom Cairney’s cross from the right flank.
As Marco Silva’s side began to take control of the game, the introduction of Manchester United youngster Alejandro Garnacho breathed new life into our attack, and just as the game appeared to be heading for a draw, the Argentinian came up at the death for Ten Hag’s side.

Garnacho’s burst of pace beat the Fulham defenders to the pass after Eriksen’s one-two, and he took his strike first time, squeezing the ball beyond Leno to snatch all three points ahead of the World Cup break and spark scenes of delirium on the pitch and among the vocal away fans. With a game in hand until the Premier League resumes on December 26 and 27, United has closed the gap on fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur to just three points.
