Gareth Southgate has issued a warning to Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford, indicating that they are not in his plans at the moment.
This isn’t ideal for the Manchester United duo as they prepare for the World Cup later this year, but it’s fair to say that neither player has done enough for club or country in a long time.
Jadon Sancho seemed like an exciting potential during his time at Borussia Dortmund, and it was during that time that he first made an impression on England.
However, since his big move to United last summer, the 22-year-old’s form has deteriorated, and he’ll need to improve soon if he’s to have a serious chance of breaking into England’s attacking third.
Similarly, Rashford was once regarded as a major young talent, but he hasn’t been at his best in the last year or two, so it’s understandable that he isn’t being considered by Southgate.
Southgate was cited in The Sun as saying:
“They’ve got a lot to do to get back in the squad.”
It will be interesting to see if the new Red Devils’ boss, Erik ten Hag, can help these players bring back their old form.
Currently, it seems that United is also looking to sign a winger which would affect Rashford’s chance of playing regularly. Ajax’s Antony has been linked with a move to Manchester United.
