Manchester United right-back, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is yet to make his international debut for the Three Lions, even after a good last season. The defender has played well this season as well but was still omitted by Gareth Southgate for the English squad for the upcoming games. In his recent interview, Southgate has reasoned why he didn’t pick Wan-Bissaka in his Three Lions squad.
To everyone’s shock, Wan-Bissaka hasn’t played a senior-level international game yet, despite starring in the Premier League. The defender is arguably one of the best in the Premier League defensively and has had a good start to the season at Manchester United. But yet again, he hasn’t been called up to the England squad, which baffles a lot of people.
When asked about Wan-Bissaka, Gareth Southgate said: “It’s an area of the pitch where we are blessed. Aaron is a very good defender, one against one he’s probably as good as I have seen, but I have to look at the balance of the team and currently there are players ahead of him.”
The likes of Reece James, Kieran Trippier, Kyle Walker and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all selected in the England squad, which tells a lot about how Southgate ranks Wan-Bissaka. To have any chance of making it into the squad, the United full-back must develop the attacking side of his game, which is pretty poor now.
