As revealed by the Evening Standard, England manager Gareth Southgate will give one last chance to Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw to prove his fitness by adding him to the provisional national team squad ahead of the Euros 2024.
The 28-year-old has remained sidelined since last playing in February where United emerged victorious against Luton Town. He missed additional three months last year and he has only made 15 appearances across all competitions for the Red Devils.
He was substituted in the second half in the game against Aston Villa in Feb and since, then his recovery process has been hit with another setback.
Among all these concerns, it has been claimed that England boss Southgate wants to test Shaw’s fitness and give him a chance to feature in the country’s provisional squad ahead of the European Championship.

The English defender has been a hardworking player for Southgate’s side and has proven his worth in the earlier international tournaments. Hence, the boss wants to give another opportunity to the player and the United star could make a comeback against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 3rd followed by a game against Iceland on June 7th.
They will then kickstart their Euros campaign against Serbia nine days later and Shaw’s inclusion in the squads depends on his performances in the two warmup games.
Southgate needs to submit his squad to UEFA by June 7th. He will name his 33-man provisional squad today before trimming it down to 26. He did the same in the last Euros, where he gave chance to a few injuries prone players before announcing the final squad.
Talking about Shaw’s status at Old Trafford, things haven’t been all fruitful. His absence has forced Erik ten Hag to think out of the box and use other players in that position.

It is highly unlikely that the experienced defender will mark a return to the squad for the FA Cup final against Manchester City at the Wembley. Tyrell Malacia’s absence has made it more difficult, and the club now intends to sign a new left-back that they can rely on.
Wolverhampton Wanderers Rayan Ait-Nouri and Girona’s Miguel Gutierrez are on their radar, and it remains to be seen whether the club makes a move this summer.
