Gary Neville has hit back on the recent comments by the Manchester United players about Chris Armas which has spread like wildfire.
When it comes to the current Manchester United team, Gary Neville hasn’t held back on speaking about the player’s disrespectful thoughts.
On Friday, it was claimed that United assistant coach Chris Armas has been compared to fictitious football coach Ted Lasso by his own players.
According to ESPN, the club’s players want Mauricio Pochettino to succeed Ralf Rangnick as manager at the end of the season. Players also grumbled about old-fashioned training sessions, indicating unrest in the United camp.
It isn’t the first time that information about Manchester United’s internal talks has been revealed publicly. During Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tenure, sources said that players were really unhappy with their lack of playing time.
Gary Neville is now fed up with the United players’ comments coming up even under Ralf Rangnick.
When it came to discussing the new leaks, Neville, wasn’t afraid to share his thoughts on this subject. As reported by The Metro, he said that the ‘Ted Lasso’ jibes directed at the club’s assistant coach were very disrespectful.
He said:
“I thought that was downright disrespectful and not funny at all. I thought it was disrespectful. Disgusting, in fact. Does this actually happen? Player’s agents and PR teams are briefing the media on a matchday about what’s going on in the club? It was the first time I’d ever seen it happen. It really unnerved me.”
“It’s happening now at Manchester United. The PR teams, the marketing teams, the agents, they’re protecting themselves. They are in self-preservation of their own player.”
“What they don’t realize is that when they do speak to the media, those media people come and speak to us, so we find out about it. We know who’s briefing, and the reality of it is, we don’t like it.”
Gary Neville believes that Manchester United players’ meaningless apologies on social media are a “smokescreen” to hide their terrible performances.
The extensive media attention of Manchester United’s off-field issues must definitely be contributing to their on-field woes as well. Such public criticism with the coaching staff highlights the stressful environment in the dressing room.
Manchester United must finish in the top four this season in order to qualify for the Champions League. However, distractions from bad publicity will undoubtedly make their challenge more difficult.
